Gérard Rancinan

We no longer need to introduce the famous photographer and prolific creator, Gérard Rancinan. His photography, intended to the transmission of messages, prints, criticisms, doesn't simply have a creative, graphic and visual significance.

At the age of 18, he becomes the youngest French photojournalist, after having spent three years as an apprentice at Sud-Ouest magazine in Bordeaux. Noticed by Sygma photo agency, he is sent to cover the news worldwide, meeting with wars, riots, earthquakes, sports or cinematographic events.

A voracious and insatiable researcher, he concurrently creates portraits for the world of fashion, sport, cinema, and contemporary artists. In 1986, he leaves Sygma to create his own photo agency, and makes portraits of the greatest and most untouchable: Fidel Castro, Pope Jean Paul II, François Mitterrand, Monica Bellucci, Roy Lichtenstein, Yasser Arafat, Bill Gates...

From this point forward, the artwork of Gérard Rancinan wins fame in numerous galleries and international museums. Renowned, it is part of prestigious private collections of contemporary art. In 2008, during an auction at Hotel Drouot, Gérard Rancinan became one of the best listed French contemporary art photographer. The record sale of "Batman Girls" in 2012 in London confirms his popularity. The "Festin des Barbares" sale for 260 000 euros, two years later, anoints him at the rank of the most expensive French living photographer of the history.
